The Conveyancing Association (CA), the leading representative body for the conveyancing industry, has today (27th…
You just knew that September 2022 was going to be unique at the start, as a new Prime Minister entered Number 10, however we had little clue of how momentous it would turn out to be with the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, and what followed from the ‘new’ Government’s ‘Mini Budget’.
In the middle of the month, Nicky Heathcote’s blog (see link below) was entitled ‘A September like no other’ – little did we know how the last week of the month would go, with Government measures spooking the markets, resulting in lenders pulling products and raising rates, which in turn spooked any individual involved in a purchase/remortgage, or indeed, those who just have a mortgage and are worried about what happens next.
Conveyancing firms have been inundated with hundreds/thousands of emails and phone calls from worried individuals and this, at a time, when resources were already stretched. The timing couldn’t be less perfect.
In the midst of all this we had the Land Registry’s new strategy, the CA’s own surveys into the conveyancing process, (another) change in the Secretary of State for DLUHC plus (another) new Housing Minister, and therefore it seems only right and proper that we ended the month with a renewed call for the Government to take charge of introducing the necessary measures and reforms to speed up the home buying and selling process.
