Conveyancing Association announces September webinar on Client and Matter Risk Assessments

The Conveyancing Association (CA) – the leading trade body for the conveyancing industry – has today (18th July 2024) announced an upcoming webinar for member firms focused on client and matter risk assessments, scheduled for September.

The session will take place on the 11th September at 10am and is entitled, ‘Client and Matter Risk Assessments: What You Need to Do to Ensure Compliance,’ hosted by industry expert, Norman Denton, Senior Compliance & Regulatory Specialist at CA Affiliate members, legal sector risk and compliance experts, Legal Eye.

In October 2023, the SRA issued a Warning Notice to firms, stating: ‘We continue to see a persistent level of non-compliant client/matter risk assessments, and this remains an area where improvement is necessary. Undertaking effective client/matter risk assessments is a key step in preventing money laundering as it should inform the correct level of client due diligence to apply, as well as ongoing monitoring.’

During this webinar, Norman will explore:

  • How client and matter risk assessments should be approached.
  • How firms demonstrate ongoing assessments.
  • Source of funds and wealth.
  • Good and poor practices in evidence.
