There was major news out of the Government this month with, at last, a comment…
June has been a month in which we have all sought to get to grips with the surprise General Election result, and certainly from a Conveyancing Association perspective we have viewed the political changes with great interest.
Members will now know that we have a new Housing Minister, Alok Sharma, plus key parts of our Strategic Plan – namely reform of leasehold and a commitment to ‘streamline’ the home buying process – made it into the Queen’s Speech. We are currently awaiting news from the DCLG about how this will progress – its own ‘Call for evidence’ has yet to be published and it will be interesting to see how this is progressed.
In terms of leasehold, the Legal Sector Group (of which the CA is a part) was able to publish its specific leasehold proposals which secured significant coverage across the industry press. It is also pleasing to see a growing interest in the work of the CA, and to see our Strategic Plan and its aims, highlighted by a number of commentors.
